Hospital Clerical | 47 Years in Solano County
I was born and raised in Solano County. I’ve enjoyed living in other places, including Europe, but Solano always brings me home. I see the proposals for California Forever and i feel that they are so very outrageous. I cannot fathom how these bazillionaires think that they can (safely, sanely, humanely) cram more people than the current population of the entire county into the land space of less than one of our smaller cities. The way that the properties were acquired is foul. Secret purchases, aggressive purchases, litigated(forced) purchases. Destruction of families and historic farms. Buying in secret. The promises that are being made are full of hot air. They sound like a Ponzi or MLM scam. “When the population reaches X, we will reward you with Y. ”
The statement about Travis AFB safe zone- IT ALREADY EXISTED! Flannery’s purchases didn’t create any additional buffer for Travis AFB. There is no infrastructure, no demand for industry, and no genuine local interest for the area that CF proposes to develop. The existing infrastructure isn’t suitable to birth, much less grow, the community that is proposed.
Where will the water be sourced? We’re promised a solar farm (that won’t interfere with the main of Travis AFB), so power shouldn’t be an issue. How about roads? Solano County currently requires an interstate highway of 4 lanes either direction. The proposed new city will be on an undivided, 2-lane state highway. Who will pay for the needed expansions on highway 12 to support this city? Keep in mind, the land currently abutting highway 12 outside of the proposed city is not owned by Flannery/ CF/ESP, but by private landowners and others. There’s about 45 miles of state highway between the interstates. Much of that is on levee roads that would be incredibly difficult to widen. There are also three drawbridges along this route. These are infrastructure thoughts to be pondered. The jobs being promised- 15,000 jobs for a population of 400,000 people. The math doesn’t make sense.
The companies that are “promised” to come to the area don’t rely on enough humans (but lots of robotics) to support the proposed population. There are so many unanswered questions. The questions have been posed to Flannery/ CF/ESP and have either been ignored, or redirected. Then we get into sudden donations – a few months before voting season- to charities and sponsoring of local events, like Solano County Fair and Fiesta Days in Vacaville. (Where was your float btw?) You should’ve been making donations and sponsoring events from the first land purchase, if you wanted to buy our votes. And lets not forget about incorporation of the new city – yes or no?
I want answers to these questions and more. I can’t support this idea until they’re answered thoroughly and with thoughts of the many in mind. I feel like they’re coming in like a wrecking ball, expecting us to be lazy, ignorant, and apathetic. Guess what? We’re not! We’re SolanoTogether!
